We discussed this last night while at Deja Vu, of opening a school for strippers (and waitresses). In addition to the basic classes of pole dancing and lap dancing, there'd be courses on customer service, conversation skills, psychology, sales techniques, even marketing.
The idea being that the graduates would be more than "Wanna dance?" clones. They'd be able to converse, to recognize a customer that will be worth the effort versus one who isn't going to open the wallet. To learn how to handle the octopuses versus the shy newbies.
Admission would be nominal since it'd be a working school. The dancing might be a little raw (pun intended).
The problem we see is accreditation. How to convince the State that the school is a good thing.

Deja Vu *is* The Waitresses
Another week, another visit to Deja Vu. This one would be a farewell of sorts for the Dimms. With Lester (moi) off for Thailand and Morley relocating to Asia after my return, this would be our final visit as a duo for quite a long while.
We went with high spirits, figuring that we'd be seeing at least a couple of our favorite waitresses. Arriving at 9:30, we were eager to see Rachel and Gabrielle. We entered...
Two waitresses. Neither are familiar though the one behind the bar gives us a huge smile as if she knows us.
We take our usual seats and the other waitress comes over. She's nice. They all are without exception but I've forgotten her name. A few minutes later the other waitress - the one who smiled at us - comes over and introduces herself: Maria.
Wow! Tremendous personality. Huge smile. Cute too. Maria - Welcome to the Dimm Brothers' Waitress Roster.
We question Maria bout who'd be on the 10 shift change. She wasn't sure except for maybe Lindsay (or is it, Lindsey? He DJV, how about a waitress RTRC sometime!).
10:00 rolls around. Maria goes off shift giving us a loud farewell from across the room. Nice.
In comes the 10:00 shift. Don't recognize her, nor her...is that Gabby? Nope. 4 new faces and 1 more...Lindsay!!!
One of the new girls comes over to check up on us. Sweet smile, super cute, petite. Nice to meet you too Evelyn.
But the burden of keeping the Dimms awash in cola fell to Lindsay and she took on that burden with an electric smile and unmatchable personality. That loud thumping wasn't the bass line of the song playing, that was our hearts pounding every time she walked by and smiled at us.
And when the Waitresss went to clean the stage...of all that is Holy...what a show!!! Lindsay simply climbing and cleaning the poles proved more appealing than the pro pole dancers.
Notice I don't mention the dancers? They were there too but we preferred watching Lindsay do her micro-shimmies. For sheer sexy we watched Lindsay and Evelyn. Sorry dancers. The Waitresses have you beat.
When we left we tipped Lindsay nicely for making our final DJV run memorable.
The DJ Sal was on as always and the dancer TrainWreck was off. OK, we watched her like you watch a bad horror film. You don't wanna but you still do. Like watching the needle go in when getting a shot. you know it's going to hurt but you can't avert your eyes.
Second week in a row the manager came over to see if there was anything we wanted, most likely because we were not watching the stage but searching for the waitresses. Kind of suspicious I guess, two guys looking around the room, casing the joint.
Next time we visit DJV as a duo we want the following Waitresses waiting for us: Lindsay, Rachel, Gabrielle, Mary, Maria, Evelyn...and to them we say: THANK YOU!!!

Deja Vu - The Spell Recast
Saturday night.
After Thursdays yawner at DJV we decided to go somewhere else, that we had ignored our duties as benevolent club reviewers too long. With absolutely good intentions we get in the MorleyMobile and head towards the Van Nuys Spearmint Rhino. Time: 9:20.
For whatever reason the traffic on the 101 towards Van Nuys wasn't moving and we're getting antsy. Time: 9:35.
Shit. What are we antsy for?
And it hits us. At DJV the waitresses change at 10:00. We wanted to see which waitresses were going off shift and which were coming on. We figured, saturday night, at least one of our three favorites (Rachel, Gabrielle, or Mary) had to be there.
Screw the 101. We veer on to the 405, blast up to Sherman Way, and scream for traffic to move aside. We were on a mission.
We get there at 9:50 and the place is definitely more lively than it was on Thursday. But first the waitress rolecall:
Mary? Nope.
Rachel? Nada.
Gabrielle? Not in sight.
Uh, oh. Will this be another Thursday? We take our now usual seats off to the side and wait to be served. Wait. Wait. 5 minutes. 10 minutes. Waitresses are around. We can see them. they just never come to our area. 15 minutes. What the hell?!? We both showered this week.
Finally at the 20 minute mark we get helped by...she never said her name...but cute and friendly. Fine, whatever.
We watch the dancers. Hey, unlike Thursday, we can name some of them: HennesseyCharms or maybe it's CharmsHennessey - not too sure. Nikki. Jane. Zoe. Mia.
That's an improvement.
Another waitress comes by to check on us. She looks very familiar. Big smile.
"I'm Mary's cousin." she says.
"Lindsey!" we say in unison.
"Everything OK?" she asks.
"It is now," we reply and it was. She lightened up the evening and helped recast the spell that is DJV. Now we have four favorite waitresses.
Highlights:
Raine should be called Thunder for the electricity she brings. Enough said.
One more thing about Raine...she's exotic looking and it was driving Morley nuts to know where she was from.
Raine: "Fresno."
Yeah, that's pretty exotic.
The Manager came by and introduced himself, letting us know if there was anything we needed. That was a nice appreciated gesture.
No TrainWreck!!!
Lowlights:
We asked the Manager about Never Tame and he said she had injured her side, couldn't dance. We wish her a speedy recovery.
The AC wasn't up to par.
The music was way too loud and added to the heat.
By the time we left at 1:30, DJV was packed and hopping, reminding us again why it's tops in the Valley. But the next time we go out it will be to someplace new. Really.

Deja Vu - The Spell Broken
We've waxed poetic about Deja Vu for a couple of months now as we've visited fairly regularly. Thursday night we found ourselves again in our favorite seats. We arrived at 8:45 and left at 9:15.
It just didn't feel right.
We were looking forward to our favorite waitresses - Gabrielle, Rachel, Mary - and to seeing familiar dancers - Never Tame, Schwinn, Hennessey, Jane, heck, even TrainWreck.
But we didn't recognize any one. We sat down and it was a full 10 minutes before a waitress came over. She was friendly enough and very nice looking but not the effusive familiar friendly we were used to and expecting.
The dancers were new and generic - some could dance, others couldn't. No personalities jumped out as us. None were interesting.
Some kudos. We were approached four times and two of the dancers recognized and acknowledged that we weren't as yet interested in dances and so left us. Nicely done.
The situation is, at least speaking for myself and not Morley, that I've been thoroughly spoiled by Never Tame. As I wrote many entries ago, she brought the complete package: dancing, looks, and personality, especially the personality.
She told me that "conversation is connection". Three words, a simple sentence, yet for a dancer it's a motto of gold.
Morley and I sat there wondering why, when the club is half empty, do the girls still do the "Wanna dance?" mantra when with a bit of conversation their odds of rejection would be greatly reduced. What else are they going to do? Why not talk with the customer? Make a connection and that "Wanna dance?" might just get a positive answer.
Yeah, I'm a spoiled S.O.B., P.L., and many other acronyms. But, having seen spectacular and amzing, I have high expectations. Thursday night didn't meet them.

Deja Vu Strangeness
With Morley back in town and a free Saturday night, we decided to get back to business. Sure, we'd end up at Deja Vu but where would we go beforehand? Blue Zebra? Godfathers on Sepulveda?
No, no other place called us. We went to Deja Vu and got there about 8:30. We were among the few guests and even fewer dancers. Strange - no Never Tame, no Charms...wait, Sadie and Nikki were there.
We settled in knowing that things wouldn't pick up until about 10.
10:00. Dead. The DJ kept apologizing for the slowness and offering "free" passes to make up for it. At the roll call there were 5 dancers.
11:00. The place was crowded and the number of dancers increased three-fold. Better but the vibe was way off. We left soon after.
What was strange was the lack of energy. None of the high flyer pole dancers like Never Tame or Schwinn were there to get the audience worked up. Nikki gave it her best shot - three times - but her repertoire isn't the "A" level.
Strange was a new (?) dancer we had not seen before. Watching her "dance" was like watching a slow motion train wreck. Simply, she couldn't dance at all. Zero, nada. Her "routine" consisted of walking slowly around a pole 1 to 3 times then moving to another pole. She walked in a daze and I hazard to guess why.
We couldn't figure out why she:
was working at DJV when her skills weren't up to any standards.
was getting money thrown at her when a dancer like August with slightly higher skills and on-stage persona got zero action.
Yet she was so, say, "inexperienced" you couldn't help but watch.
Strange was a gentleman who sat at the stage front and center with seemingly oodles of money to "rain" on the dancers. Maybe he was a shill but he threw wads of singles - 50 at a time - at about 3, 4 dancers in a row before leaving. One dancer - a pornstar whose name escapes me - received about $300 in flying singles. Morley and I must deeply thank this gentleman for his effusive tossing of bills since quite a few didn't land on the stage and instead landed near us.
No, we didn't take his money. However the waitresses would help pick up these errant solos. The views were most encouraging.
To end the strange, slow night, we have to give a special thanks to two waitresses who made the evening very enjoyable: Rachel and Gabrielle. Thank you and thank you. We've said this before and we stand by what we wrote: the waitresses at Deja Vu are more entertaining than the majority of dancers.
