Morley and I had a free evening Saturday. We decided on going to dinner, of course, but what of entertainment? Our initial thought was to return to Downtown LA to revisit
Club Fantasy to see whether it held up as our #1 LA non-nude entertainment location.
But we're always looking for something new and a revisit wasn't wowwing us. We decided to catch a comedy club on Ventura. Off we went - 3 hours early.
40 minutes to downtown. We could still, theoretically, visit
Club Fantasy and make the comedy club. Nah, with this much time let's go to...
[An aside. Always, always, always, when trolling for entertainment in LA, pick up a copy of the
LA Weekly. Get one copy for each person in your group. The coupons for the entertainment clubs are helpful.]
Desire. This place is on Bellaire near Saticoy. We were a bit reluctant to spend strip clubs prices but the place was somewhat close to our real evening's fun. What the hell.
And it wasn't bad. Arguably it was the best LA strip club we've visited to date. Not
Shotgun Willies great but not bad. Since we were there early there were only about 5 guys in the place, including us. I counted about 8 girls working, not bad but usually that means we could expect to be approached constantly. That didn't happen.
Here's what they did right:
We had coupons for free admission but still had to pay $5 for drinks. Fine. We both gave the cashier $20s. He gave us both $15 in singles. Nice move. Made it convenient for us and more likely to spend.
Not too many "niche" dancers, "niche" meaning plump or mature or overly tattooed, the type that will attract maybe 1 guy out of 10.
Quite a few good looking dancers. Some were smoking hot. (Lisa!)
Although they had one big stage, the chairs were nicely horseshoed in three rows around it. The chairs were comfortable too.
We weren't bombarded with lap dance offers. Sure, they came around but the girls were very polite.
Here's where they needed some work:
The younger girls were cute but they didn't know how to work a conversation. As a quiet guy, I expect the girl to keep the conversation going or to cut to the offer. Don't waste either of our time. The aforementioned Lisa was beautiful but ended up quietly sitting next to me. I didn't mind the close-up eye candy but it was a tad awkward.
Turn the music down. Yo, Mr. DJ!! Check out your audience. If it's small or made up of older guys turn the music down. It was hard to hear the girls talking to us.
Change the music. Again, Mr. DJ, know your audience. Us older guys aren't into hip-hop or rap. Try some classic rock.
Enough with the strobe. In fact, get rid of it. Not only couldn't we see the girls dancing but it's downright annoying.
Like other places, a little too much down time. We know that when the girls aren't dancing, they're trolling for lapdances. In summary, it was a decent $20 spent for an hour.

Nice review...after reading your post on Club Fanta, I would have made the revisit instead...
